WHY IT MATTERS – From blinking lights on your neighbors’ homes to Christmas music piped into stores and restaurants, you cannot escape the holiday season in America.
TOO LATE? – The poll asked 1,023 U.S. adults when people should take down their Christmas or holiday decorations.
3 percent – Day after Christmas
10 percent – The week between Christmas and New Year’s Day
48 percent – The first week in January
23 percent – Later in January
7 percent – After January
3 percent – Leave them up all year long
TOO SOON? – The poll also asked when it was appropriate to start playing Christmas music in public.
6 percent – Between Halloween and Thanksgiving
56 percent – After Thanksgiving
25 percent – After Dec. 1
6 percent – One week before Thanksgiving
4 percent – Never
TOO ANNOYING? - The poll also asked participants what Christmas song they found the most annoying. The top responses were:
12 percent – All I want for Christmas Is You
6 percent – Jingle Bells
5 percent – Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
4 percent – All Christmas songs
(An additional 3 percent chose “All Mariah Carey songs.”)
BOTTOM LINE - Most Americans want the holiday season contained to between Thanksgiving and early January.
